<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting device that can effectively utilize the light radiated from a light emitting source without causing any light loss and can be increased in luminous intensity and, at the same time, can irradiate condensed light in a desired direction and a desired range; and to provide a method of manufacturing the device. <P>SOLUTION: Since this light emitting device is constituted to make side-face radiation based on total reflection or light condensation in accordance with the luminous intensity distribution of the light radiated from a light emitting element 4 by providing first and second optical sections 51 and 52 in an optical section 5, this device can control the light even when the radius of the optical section 5 is reduced. Particularly, this device can radiate such light that cannot utilize total reflection in the direction of the side face by condensing the light by means of the first optical section 51. Consequently, the luminous intensity of this light emitting device in about the horizontal direction can be increased by suppressing the occurrence of light losses. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
