PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively utilize an optical disk and accurately inspect an optical pickup upon its inspection using the optical disk. SOLUTION: An optical disk DK is rotated, data for inspection is recorded in the optical disk DK by an optical pickup 20, data for inspection recorded in the optical disk DK is reproduced by the optical pickup 20, and the optical pickup 20 is inspected by evaluating the reproduced signal by the reproduction. An irradiation position of a laser beam is moved initially to a position being slightly before a recording start position of data for inspection in the optical disk DK, and after initial movement of the irradiation position of the laser beam, the irradiation position of the laser beam is made to jump for each one track, and a track in which data is not yet recorded is searched. Data for inspection recorded in a plurality of tracks are reproduced and evaluated for each one track. Also, data for inspection of a central track is reproduced and evaluated dividing it to the case when recording data exist in both sides track and the case in which no recording data exists.
