A baffle plate for a burn chamber fired with gas or oil comprises at square plate of heat resistant stainless steel with the four corners bent back to form an octagonal plate. The tips of the bent back corners are bent yet again to form inward facing mounting tags which are secured to the back of the chamber by threaded fasteners. The fasteners have a loose fit in the mounting holes in the tags and are spot welded after fastening. The tags are shielded from the direct flames by the plate.
