PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-efficiency lamp with white light of a correlated color temperature of 3,500K to 5,000K, an average color rendering index Ra of 90 or more, and a special color rendering index R9 of red color of around 90. SOLUTION: The lamp is provided with an arc tube made of translucent ceramics having a pair of electrodes at either end and with metal halide, mercury and buffer gas sealed inside, and an outer tube incorporating the arc tube. The metal halide consists of sodium halide, thallium halide, calcium halide and at least a kind of rare-earth system halide, with a ratio of of the calcium halide to a total of the metal halide to be 55 to 75 mol%.
