PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical waveguide material having high mechanical strength. SOLUTION: The optical waveguide material consists of a core part for guiding light and a cladding part, and has a fiber-like or a rod-like form. The core part and/or the cladding part have a plurality of air holes which are formed in parallel to the waveguide direction periodically or randomly.
