PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent damage to a recording medium by enabling the recording medium to be taken outward, even if the supply of operating power from an external device is interrupted, in a printer for printing on the recording medium such as a CD-R. SOLUTION: When the interruption of the supply of the power is detected due to the removal of a USB cable 3, a CPU 51, which is to be supplied with the operating power from a personal computer 2 via the USB cable 3, is supplied with the power from a built-in battery power source so as to make a thermal head 21 moved from a printing position to abut on an optical disk 4 to a non-printing position to be separated from the optical disk 4.
