A rotatable main body has radial impacting members(5) extending outwards. Each member is flexible and elastic and has thickened ends(6) which contact the surface from which flash is to be removed. Each impacting member(5) comprises a long wire, preferably spring wire. The thickened ends(6) may comprise either a thickening of the wire material or are created by adding material to the wire end. Thickened ends can be rounded, square, uniform or non-uniform and may be a permanent or detachable feature. Wires may be may be regularly or irregularly spaced and/or have different dimensions, particularly length, around the periphery of the main body. Wires can be arranged in layers and/or several tools may be arranged one above the other. Wires can be at the same or different levels on the main body, in particular offset from each other. The tool can rotate in either direction. An independent claim is included for a process for abrasive treatment of surfaces on rubber components, in particular rubber tires and other molded components in which flash(17) projecting above the product surface(13) is embrittled by intense cooling and then removed by the claimed rotating tool.
