PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stop continuous overwrite recording operations by catching a change of an image that a photographic target phenomenon means, in a very high-speed video camera equipped with a pixel periphery recording type imaging device which has 100 or more recording elements around each pixel and records latest image information at all the time while parallel recording image signals into the imaging device simultaneously for all pixels during photographing and while discharging former image signals through continuous overwrite recording. SOLUTION: An image pickup plane is divided into a plurality of blocks and when defining an electric charge which does not become an image signal discharged from each block, namely, an electron as an image signal, a quantity of positive pores is monitored or even when defining the electron as the image signal, a quantity of overflowing excessive electrons is monitored and when there is a significant change, the continuous overwrite operations are stopped.
