PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a programmable controller capable of quickly performing the I/O control of a highly functional I/O unit operating asynchronously with a CPU unit. SOLUTION: The CPU unit 11, a predetermined unit 12 controlled by the CPU unit 11, a highly functional I/O unit 13 and an I/O unit 14 for the highly functional I/O unit are interconnected through a connector 15 formed in each unit. The highly functional I/O unit and the I/O unit are connected through a system bus 17 whose system is different from that of a system bus 16 from the CPU unit, and the highly functional I/O unit is communicatively connected through the system 16 to the CPU unit. Therefore, the highly functional I/O unit is able to transmit/receive I/O data with the I/O unit regardless of the cycle time of the CPU unit, and the control of the highly functional I/O unit is made executable in a real time.
