PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent discontinuity of gradation level in a liquid crystal display. SOLUTION: One frame is divided into first sub-fields SF1-SF3, and potential in a pixel electrode is written in each of them. The polarity of opposite electrode potential LCCOM is inverted in each frame. In n frames, one potential selected from among selection potentials v0a-v3a is applied on a pixel electrode, and n+1 frames, one potential selected from among selection potentials v0b-v3b is applied on the pixel electrode. As a result, voltages V0"-V3" are applied to a liquid crystal. The transmittance of the liquid crystal sets the voltages V0"-V3" so as to indicate regular intervals. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
