EMERGENCY DEFLATE MECHANISM FOR INFLATABLE PACKER ASSEMBLIES

The packer assembly includes a deflation sub (19) that houses the components of an emergency deflation mechanism. The deflation sub defines a dumping chamber (52) that is at approximately atmospheric pressure, retains a portion of the inflation line (18) for the packer element and a means for separating the inflation line. To actuate the emergency deflation mechanism, an operator pulls up on the tubing string. A piston is then moved axially with respect to the housing, causing separation of the inflation line.via a split rod arrangement. Fluid from within the packer elements is then moved by the hydrostatic pressure into the dump chamber thereby deflating the packer elements.
