Handrail drive for escalator or moving walkway

The escalator or moving pavement (1) has a drive (2.1) for the handrail (2) on the outer side (2.2). The handrail drive has a friction wheel which drives the handrail on the outer side by friction engagement. Pressure rollers (8) installed on the handrail inner side press the handrail against the friction wheel. A drive wheel (4) drives the friction wheel with positive locking and is installed on a stepped chain wheel (5). The friction wheel on one side of the escalator is connected by a shaft (9) to the friction wheel on the other side for torque transmission.
