<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite electrode and a manufacturing method thereof for coating an ion conductive ceramic film on an electrode to mainly perform the electronic conduction around the electrode and an electrolyte in order to improve the electrode performance of a fuel cell, a sensor and a solid state device, and additionally extending a three-phase interface with the electrode/the electrolyte/the gas in contact therewith as an electrochemical reaction part while an electronic conductive material and an ion conductive material are independent of each other. <P>SOLUTION: There is provided a method for improving the electrode performance by coating a continuous porous oxygen ion conductive ceramic ceria film by a sol-gel method around an electrode of a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) or a sensor to provide a very fine structure with a three-phase interface extended with an electronic conductive material and an ion conductive material independent from each other. No expensive device or starting material is required, the small structure is easily controlled, the electrode/electrolyte interface resistance is effectively reduced in a low-temperature step, the area of the three-phase interface is increased, the electrode resistance is reduced, and the electrode performance of the SOFC, the sensor, and the solid-state device is improved. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
