<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin film magnetic head which can effectively improve a heat radiation effect by effectively shortening a distance between a member particularly having a heat radiation function and a substrate, and further provide its manufacturing method. <P>SOLUTION: A lower shielding layer 22 is embedded and formed within a first recessed part 21a formed on an under layer 21. As a result, the distance between the lower shielding layer 22 and a slider 20 can be shortened. Also, a second metallic layer 28 is formed from above a gap layer 23 covering the surface of an electrode leading layer 50 to the surface of the under layer 21 behind the same. The second metallic layer 28 can be thereby formed closer to the slider 20 side than the upper shielding layer 27.
