PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a permanent magnet motor for an electric power steering device, which can be made small and light in weight and does not impair the smooth feeling of steering. SOLUTION: A stator iron core 3 has six pieces of teeth 3b, and the number of slots is six. Two grooves 3f are provided on the end portion 3d of each tooth 3b. A stator winding 4 is structured by concentrated winding of six pieces of coils 5 on each tooth 3a. Six pieces of the coils 5 constitute phase windings 4a for three phases of U, V, W by connecting two pieces of the coils 5 in series skipping two pieces of the coils because of three phases, and three-phase delta connection is provided. The magnetic poles 8 of a rotor 6 are magnetized in such a way that distribution of their residual flux density and no-load induced voltages of the phase windings 4a become rectangular waveforms of a prescribed shape. Also, by providing the grooves 3f on the teeth 3b, torque ripples at a rated load and the ripples of cogging torque can be suppressed to a value that does not impair the steering feel.
