PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carton opening device for reliable opening. SOLUTION: This relates to a carton opening device for opening a folded carton which is tubular shaped with a nearly square cross section when it is opened. The opening device is provided with a pair of holding members for holding the folded back end part positioned on both side ends of the folded carton and a pair of circulating transport means for circularly moving the holding members along a fixed pathway. The pathway is so formed that the distance between the pair of holding members becomes shorter toward the exit of the opened carton from the entrance of the folded carton in the pathway.
