PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for driving a plasma display panel are provided to prevent the voltage on the scan electrode from rapidly rising up to the sustain voltage by supplying the smooth pre-ramp waveform to the scan electrode. CONSTITUTION: A method for driving a plasma display panel includes the steps of: generating a first ramp waveform with a rising edge; generating a second ramp waveform with a rising edge; generating a third ramp waveform with a falling edge; and initializing the plasma display panel by using the first to the third ramp waveforms.
