PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for forming a uniform coating film comprising a hafnia-containing sol solution, of which the wetting properties are bad with respect to the surface of a metal, on the surface of the metal. SOLUTION: A hard coating film is formed on a metal base material subjected to degreasing treatment or electrolytic treatment by coating the metal base material with the hafnia-containing sol solution formed by a sol-gel method and subjecting the coating film on the metal base material to curing treatment.
