PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize downsizing and simplification by measuring the length of paper for a perfecting printer by means of a paper detector. SOLUTION: In this perfecting printer 1, a second paper detecting means 13 is arranged in a movable range of a flapper 12 for switching between a carrying passage and a lead-in path to a paper reversing mechanism 2 in terms of the paper to be carried in a reverse direction. After the absence of the paper is detected by an output signal of the detecting means 13, the length of the paper is determined according to a detection output signal of a first paper detecting means 22. The length of the fed paper is measured during carrying by using the two detecting means 13 and 22 which are provided in the carrying passage, so that a jam and the like can be avoided because the paper is ejected before the start of printing, even if the paper with an erroneous length is fed to the perfecting printer 1.
