PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To continuously supply 100% of a separation gas with a predetermined capacity in a necessary amount without providing the same number of hollow fiber membrane modules as a usual system to a preparatory system by specifying the abnormal one among a plurality of the hollow fiber membrane modules when abnormality occurs in the properties or the like of the separation gas. SOLUTION: This gas separator is constituted of the usual system, which composed of a plurality of the hollow fiber membrane modules 5 parallelly provided between inlet side piping 11 and outlet side piping 14, and a preparatory system which is composed of the hollow fiber membrane modules provided in parallel to the usual system between the inlet side piping and the outlet side piping. Further, the gas separator is constituted of the isolation valves 20a and 20b of the usual system provided to the inlet and outlet side piping of the hollow fiber membrane modules of the usual system and held to an opened state at a usual time but changed over to a closed state by the detection of abnormality, the isolation valve 20c of the preparatory system provided to the inlet side piping of the hollow fiber membrane modules of the preparatory system and held to a closed state at a usual time but changed over to the opened state by the detection of abnormality and gas abnormality detecting means 18 and 19 provided to the outlet side pipings and monitoring the state of an outlet gas to detect an abnormal state.
