PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer in which a paper can be employed as a print medium as usual, and an optical address type liquid crystal panel can be employed as a display medium by simply replacing a print head. SOLUTION: A reset voltage or a driving voltage is applied using the display medium carrying roller 22 of the printer as the electric signal feed terminal to the display medium, i.e. the liquid crystal panel 24. The print head 23 has a shutter and a heater for controlling irradiation of writing light and a picture or a letter is written on the liquid crystal panel by irradiating the liquid crystal panel with the writing light by means of the shutter while heating it by means of the heater. The liquid crystal panel employing a ferroelectric liquid crystal has memory properties and holds information being written before a next reset voltage is supplied. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
