PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a voltex prevention device for a pump capable of positively preventing the generation of an underwater voltex by a simple structure without requiring draining of water left in a pump installation tank, or the civil engineering work of a pump installation tank, and capable of vastly shortening the operation stop time of a pump. SOLUTION: The pump P is hangingly installed in a pump installation area 1 which is a back part of the pump installation tank 5 in a state of having a cross-shaped baffle 7 right beneath its downward-facing suction bellmouth (suction port) 6. An underwater voltex prevention member 8 made of punching metal with its projected planar configuration in a substantially semi-circular shape extending downward is provided on a part opposing the back wall 2 of the pump installation area 1 right beneath the suction bellmouth (suction port) 6, which is an area opposing the back wall 2 shown byθ=160°.
