The housing for the transmission unit is made in two halves with one section (11) holding the torque converter, the continuously variable transmission and with a recess (16) at one edge to hold one end of a gear shaft (270) which connects the transmission to the differential. A separate housing cover (17) locates over the recess and holds the other shaft bearing. The recess not only holds one shaft bearing (274) but also has windows (276,277) to provide the geared connection between the secondary shaft of the continuously variable transmission and the differential. The recess is reinforced by ribs cast with the housing. |
