PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary electric machine having a ventilating system which straightens inflow velocity distribution to an axial fan and which can reduce leakage loss at a chip gap between the tip of the blade of the axial fan and an inside fan guide. SOLUTION: The rotary electric machine includes the axial fan provided at the end of a rotor shaft for supplying and circulating a cooling medium toward a stator and a rotor, the inside fan guide having a cylinder disposed concentrically with the rotor shaft and surrounding the tip of the blade of the axial fan via the chip gap and an annular plate connected to the opening edge of the cylinder via an intermediate connecting tube, an outside fan guide for forming the suction channel of the axial fan together with the inside fan guide, and a cooler provided in the channel from an exhaust duct formed on the back surface of the stator to the suction channel of the axial fan for cooling the cooling medium. The rotary electric machine further includes a leakage control means for suppressing the leakage of the cooling medium from the pressure surface of the blade of the axial fan toward the negative pressure surface of the blade at the cylinder surrounding the tip of the blade of the axial fan at the inside fan guide.
