DIGITAL SCAN MAMMOGRAPH IMAGING APPARATUS

A scan mammograph imaging apparatus 10 includes an X-ray tube 12, a collimator 14 and a detector 18 which are mounted to a C-shaped frame 16 in an arrangement wherein the X-ray tube and the detector are disposed opposite one another. A patient's breast is supported on a support table between the X-ray tube and the detector. A trolley 40 is connected to the frame 16 and is displaceable along a trolley table 42 which defines a curved guide track 44. The trolley 40 is displaceable along the guide track thereby causing transverse displacement of the X-ray tube 12 and the collimator 14 along an arcuate scan path which corresponds to the curvature of the patient's chest wall. The invention extends to a method of imaging a patient's breast along an arcuate scan path.
