PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize ink discharge at a long and multi- nozzle recording head and to achieve elongation of the life of a recording head by setting an optimum driving pulse to the recording head. SOLUTION: An optimum driving condition for each group is determined from an arrangement of grouping discharge heaters of a long head, and setting the optimum driving condition for each of the groups; a rank value of the discharge heaters capable of discharging ink by a minimum supplied energy in the head; and a rank value calculated from a discharge heater resistance measured for each discharge heater group in the head, and a wiring resistance.
