Disclosed is a method for determining a quality parameter of a pulp sample. The method comprises the steps of providing a pulp sample for which a quality parameter is to be determined; applying a force to the pulp sample, obtaining at least a value for a spectral response relating to a physical property of the pulp sample in dependence of the applied force; establishing a relationship between the at least a value for a spectral response of the pulp sample and a value for the applied external force and determining a quality parameter of the pulp sample from the relationship between the value for the spectral response relating to a physical property of the pulp sample and value for the applied external force. Further disclosed are apparatus working according to the method of the instant invention.
