PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a retaining wall which is efficiently constructed regardless of the type of base material, and to provide blocks for use in construction of the retaining wall. SOLUTION: In construction of the retaining wall, a plurality of block main bodies 2 are arranged side by side, and a first bearing block 71 is mounted at an appropriate location on an upper surface of a rear wall 4 of each block main body 2, as needed. Then the base material S is charged in the block main bodies 2, and in gaps between the mutually adjacent block main bodies 2, 2, and between the rear wall 4 of each block main body 2 and a slope surface, up to a first level L<SB>1</SB>, and thereafter a surface of the charged base material S is compacted by rolling. Further a horizontal block 60 is horizontally erected on lower stages 5b, 5b of the mutually adjacent side walls 5, 5, and if the first bearing block 71 is mounted on the rear wall of the block main body, a second bearing block 72 is mounted on the first bearing block 71. Further the base material S is charged in the block main bodies 2, and in the gaps between the mutually adjacent block main bodies 2, 2, and between the rear wall 4 of each block main body 2 and the slope surface, up to a second level L<SB>2</SB>, and the surface of the charged base material S is compacted by rolling.
