PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary excavation head capable of decreasing the frequency of replacements by decreasing abrasion of a pick or a pick box and realizing the shortening of an excavation time in accordance with the shortening of a time of replacement. SOLUTION: The rotary excavation head 10 is equipped with a rotary drum 11, a large number of picks 13A to 13D, etc., a large number of pick boxes 12, etc. and wear resistant plates 14A to 14B, etc. The upper end section of the wear resistant plate 14A located around the front end section of the rotary drum 11 is approximately parallel with the upper end section of the pick box 12, and the upper end sections 13a and 13b of the picks 13A and 13B are projected from the upper end section of the wear resistant plate 14A.
