Non-penetrating projectile

A projectile including means to effectively retard the velocity thereof on impact with a target in such a way as to prevent excess damage, injury or penetration; the means rapidly expanding in volume to produce a large increase in the area at the nose of the projectile following impact with, or when in the proximity of, a target. The expansion is effected by release of a pressurised medium, such as a gas, stored in the projectile.
