PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a platemaking device, which can perform the initializing action of a cutting means without creating the wasting of master and the lowering of workability. SOLUTION: In the platemaking device 1 having a platen roller 2, a thermal head 3 and the cutting means 4, the platen roller 2 can carry a master 8 to both a normal direction to feed it out of a master roll 8a and a reverse direction to send it back to the master roll 8a and the cutting means 4 has a master tip detecting means 5 to detect whether the tip of the master 8 exceeds a cutting position A or not. When the excess of the cutting position A by the tip of the master 8 is detected with the master tip detecting means 5 at the start of a platemaking action, the master 8 is conveyed to the reverse direction through the actuation of the platen roller 2 so as to perform the initializing action of the cutting means 4 under the state that the tip of the master 8 does not exceed the cutting position A.
