PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for forming an image having small fluctuation of density in the plane of a silver halide photosensitive material in the method of forming an image by scanning exposure based on digital data, and to provide a method for forming an image preferably used for forming a digital proof image using a silver halide photosensitive material. SOLUTION: An image is formed by subjecting a silver halide photosensitive material having at least one layer of a silver halide emulsion having≥90 mol% silver chloride content on a support to scanning exposure using a laser or a light emitting diode as a light source, and then developing the exposed photosensitive material in the presence of an aromatic primary amine developing agent. The silver halide emulsion contains a metal compound having organic ligands in a half or more of coordination numbers and is chemically sensitized by a gold compound and a sulfur compound.
