The equipment and method are for the determination of vehicle data (V) and include a position determining unit (1) fixed to or in a vehicle for determination at successive time intervals of the momentary position data of the vehicle. A gravity sensor determines the forces of gravity experienced by the vehicle and the corresponding data is stored in a memory (3). The position data, the gravity force data are processed in a central processor unit (2) to provide representative data to the vehicle indicating momentary acceleration and retardation. The successive time intervals used for determination purposes are at most 3 seconds long.
