PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data processing apparatus for deciding and outputting a content category (such as drama or variety) of inputted multimedia data. SOLUTION: While paying attention to video in multimedia data, the time in which a scene is switched, is successively stored. When the interval is a multiple of 15sec in several times of scene switching in the past, such a time block is decided to be a commercial.
