PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a filing instrument which enables relatively easy opening/closing and prevents the accidental opening of the filing rod, by manually operating a top part of a filing rod of the filing instrument. SOLUTION: In this filing instrument 10, an operating member 18 is composed of a pair of operating pieces 30 and 32 which can be moved in the longitudinal direction of a holding member 16 in the state of butting against each other in the holding member 16 and which can be turned in the direction of opening the filing rods 12 and 14. Base parts of half-split rods 12a and 12b on one side are fixed to one operating piece 30, and base parts of half-split rods 32a and 32b on the other side are fixed to the other operating piece 32. The filing instrument has a locking member 64 which includes a braking mechanism 60 for inhibiting the movement of one operating piece 30 in the longitudinal direction of the holding member 16, and an opening mechanism 62 for opening the filing rods 12 and 14 by releasing the braking mechanism 60 and longitudinally moving the holding member 16 for one operating piece 30.
