PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for decarbonization-refining a stainless steel, which inhibits the oxidation of chromium and a temperature rise of a molten steel more effectively than ever. SOLUTION: The method for decarbonization-refining the stainless steel comprises blowing oxygen to a chromium-containing molten steel held in a top and bottom combined blowing converter from the top and bottom to lower the carbon concentration to 1 mass% or less, then blowing inert gas and water into the converter through a top blowing lance, and blowing a mixed gas of oxygen gas and inert gas into the molten steel through a tuyere in the bottom of a blast furnace, to further decarbonize the molten steel. In addition, the method controls a flow ratio of the upper blown inert gas to the bottom blown mixed gas, into 0.5 or higher. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
