HANDOFF SYSTEM USING AN INITIAL RANGING IN A WIDEBAND WIRELESS ACCESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM AND A METHOD THEREOF, CONCERNED WITH SUPPLYING MOBILITY OF A SUBSCRIBER TERMINAL WHILE GUARANTEEING A HIGH-SPEED DATA RATE

PURPOSE: A handoff method using an initial ranging in a wideband wireless access communication system and a method thereof are provided to enable an idle handoff process by using an initial ranging function, thereby supplying mobility of a subscriber terminal while guaranteeing a high-speed data rate. CONSTITUTION: A subscriber terminal(500) receives a preamble of a downlink frame, and obtains a system synchronization with a base station(550)(511). The base station(550) transmits a DL(Downlink)_MAP message and a UCD(Uplink Channel Descript) message to the subscriber terminal(500)(513). The subscriber terminal(500) stores peripheral base station-related information in an inner memory of the subscriber terminal(500)(515). The subscriber terminal(500) monitors whether a pilot channel signal having a bigger strength than that of the base station(550) exists(517). The base station(550) transmits the DL_MAP message, and transmits a UL(Uplink)_MAP message to the terminal(500)(519). The terminal(500) detects uplink-related information, and stores the information(521). The terminal(500) stands by to correspond to a back-off value included in the UCD message, retransmits an initial ranging request message, and re-attempts an initial ranging(525).
