PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rack and pinion type steering device having a high degree of freedom for selecting a material to prepare a bush for supporting a rack shaft. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a pinion shaft connected to a steering member, the rack shaft 2 engaged with the pinion shaft, a cylindrical housing1 for storing the rack shaft 2 to be movable in an axial length direction, and the cylindrical bush 11 interposed between the housing 1 and the rack shaft 2. In the device, elastic members 14a and 14b are disposed among end faces 13a and 12a of an annular recessed part 13 and an end face of the bush 11 facing to the end faces 13a and 12a.
