PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of suppressing both diffused transfer and graving to inconspicuous levels. SOLUTION: A roller with an elastic layer comprising an elastic material is used as a transfer roller 4 as a roller member. A device which electrostatically transfers a toner image by passing a transfer current of 6-60 [nA/mm<SP>2</SP>] between the transfer roller 4 and a photoreceptor 1 while pressing the roller 4 on the photoreceptor 1 under a pressure of 0.01-1.6 [N/mm<SP>2</SP>] is used as a transfer device using the transfer roller 4.
