PURPOSE: A video communication terminal and method for locating the face of a user at the center of a screen are provided to easily transmit an image of the face of a caller to a called part in the event of video communication. CONSTITUTION: A video communication terminal includes a transmitting and receiving unit(160) for transmitting and receiving data for video communication, a tracking unit(120) for extracting a caller's face from an image captured by a camera(110), and an image extracting unit(130) for selecting pixels corresponding to a predetermined region including the caller's face. The video communication terminal further includes a distortion correcting unit(140) for correcting a distortion included in the pixels of the predetermined region, and a controller(150) for judging whether a set photographing mode is a self view mode for photographing the caller and, when the set photographing mode is judged to be the self view mode, controlling the photographing mode of the camera. The controller controls the transmitting and receiving unit to transmit the image whose distortion has been corrected by the distortion correcting unit to a communication terminal of a called part.
