PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp and its electrode structure, whereby the surface of an electrode is excellently protected, blackening on the inner tube wall of the discharge lamp is lessened, and the usable life of the discharge lamp can be extended. SOLUTION: In a discharge lamp 1 and its electrode structure wherein an anode 3 and a cathode 6 are installed face to face in a swelling light emitting space at the center of a bulb, a heat radiating layer containing at least one kind of metallic oxide is formed on the outer surface of at least one of the anode 3 and the cathode 6 except for the vicinity of the tip of the electrode.
