PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrially usable method for removing, in a short time, a tin-containing foreign matter from the surface of a glass substrate produced by a float process without damaging the surface of the glass substrate and to provide a glass substrate from which the tin-containing foreign matter is removed by the method. SOLUTION: The surface of glass produced by a float process is irradiated with a pulse laser beam whose transmittance through a glass substrate is 70% or more and whose pulse width, wavelength, and energy density per unit area at the the surface of the glass substrate satisfy a specific relationship. Thus, the tin-containing foreign matter present at the frontside and/or the backside of the surface irradiated with the pulse laser beam is removed. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
