PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vane type vacuum pump featuring improved durability. SOLUTION: The vane type vacuum pump P1 is equipped with a nearly cylindrical circumference wall 2, a pump chamber 1 having an intake hole 3 and a discharge hole 4, which are formed in parallel with the circumference wall, a rotor 9 whose central axis is decentered from the central axis of the pump chamber 1, and a vane 14 which is installed beside the rotor 9 in a manner in which the vane can revolve in accordance with the rotation of the rotor 9 and is able to move in the direction toward the diameter of the rotor 9. The internal circumference wall 2a, on which the vane 14 is slid, is round in shape. The vane 14 has 2 vanes proper 15, 20, one of which is installed to protrude to one side from the diameter of the rotor 9, and the other of which is installed to protrude to the other side of the diameter. Each of these vanes proper 15, 20 can always make its ends 16a, 20a on its circumference wall 2 side contact and slide on the internal circumference face 2a of the circumference wall 2.
