PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an activator for use in a two-component hair relaxer system. SOLUTION: This activator contains an alkaline material such as calcium hydroxide mixed with a mineral oil. Preferably, the activator exists as a suspension, an emulsion, or a gel. There are also described a hair relaxer system containing a mineral oil which contains the activator and a cream base, a hair relaxer made by mixing these two components, and a method for using such system to straighten hair.
