PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a counter capable of more easily perform a counting work of the number of samples, and easily re-starting the work not by starting at the beginning but by re-starting from an intermitted point even if the work is intermitted in the middle of the work. SOLUTION: The pen-type counter is provided with a writing part, an ink storing body connected with the writing part and retreating/advancing in accordance with a pressing action of the writing part onto a body to be written, a detecting means for detecting retreating/advancing actions of the ink storing body, and a counting means for counting based on the output of the detecting means.
