In executing a monochrome copy mode, a controller (100) sets a reading mode for a scanner (2) so as to read images at high speed by a line sensor (K) alone, with respect to the scanner (2), sets an image processing with respect to an image processor (101) capable of printing monochrome image information sent from the scanner (2) in a printer (3) using a single color black, and sets a monochrome printing mode capable of printing black images at high speed with respect to the printer (3), thereby controlling the monochrome copying operation.
