The method involves feeding the loose material (A) into an essentially cylindrical filling chamber (10,12) in which it is compressed by an axially exerted force. Finally, a part of the compressed substrate material is removed as a measured volume (C). The filling volume is filled with loose material to such a depth that the depth resulting after compression is at least the height of the block to be removed.
