Adsorber for production, and supply, of oxygen to passengers in an aircraft comprises, in a cylindrical envelope around a central gas pipe (coaxial with the envelope), a mass of adsorbant (6) that adsorbs nitrogen preferentially. The new feature is that (6) has mean axial diameter (h) over 25 cm and external diameter (phi) such that h/phi = 0.8-2. An Independent claim is also included for a method for operating an oxygen generator comprising two of the new adsorbers, operated alternately in a PSA cycle, where the cycle time is less than 6 s and outflow of gas is about 300 l/minute for an outlet pressure over 2 bar, relative.
