PURPOSE: An apparatus for driving a liquid crystal display device having a horizontal scroll function and a method thereof are provided to perform the horizontal scroll function by processing the image data outputted from a predetermined memory and applying it to a liquid crystal panel. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for driving a liquid crystal display device provided with a horizontal scroll function includes a main control unit(110), a memory unit(120) and a horizontal scroll unit(130). The main control unit(110) generates an image data read information, generates display synchronization signals including a shift synchronization signal and a low synchronization signal and performs the overall control. The memory unit(120) stores image data having at least more than one frame and outputs the image data by one row at the corresponding address with receiving the control of the image data read information. And, the horizontal scroll unit(130) divides/stores the image data outputted from the memory unit by a predetermined unit and outputs a final column signal voltage by performing the conversion from the image data to an analog signal and the amplification from the analog signal to a real liquid crystal panel driving signal.
