PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method for image processing for generating an archive image in human-readable form from a digital image wherein the archive image provides long-term archivability. SOLUTION: A stand-alone image automated processing system and method are provided. The method comprises the steps of: accessing at least one image in digital form; writing the at least one digital image to a photosensitive medium to generate at least one exposed film image; mechanically transporting the at least one exposed film image to a chemical processor; and automatically and chemically processing the at least one exposed film image to generate a film output image.
